The mayor of Helmetta wanted to bring the community closer together during this weekend’s blizzard.
Helmetta saw about 8-10 inches of snow on Saturday during a blizzard that dropped about 19 inches of snow on other parts of the state. Residents spent most of Saturday afternoon braving the cold temperatures and shoveling their driveways and walkways
Mayor Chris Slavicek personally delivered hot chocolate to residents.
“I think that in times like these such as when there is a snowstorm, on any street that you go to in Helmetta, you can honestly see neighbors helping neighbors. And that warms my heart,” the mayor said. “So why not give back?”
Crews were still out clearing the town’s roadways. The snow has moved out of the state, but frigid temperatures will remain.
