More rain and possible flooding are expected in New Jersey on Thursday.
It would be another drenching, coming less than two weeks after homes in parts of Dunellen, North Plainfield and Plainfield were severely damaged or destroyed in a previous round of flooding.
Many homeowners in Dunellen were impacted when 6 inches of rain fell in less than two hours. Those living along the Green Brook suffered the most.
North Washington Avenue runs across the Green Brook. It was there that News 12 crews found trash still piled high along sidewalks, while houses that had their foundation wiped clear are being repaired.
The Fabrizzio family says the first floor of their home was steam-cleaned and the drywall torn out. The family also replaced every appliance in the basement after they were forced to move out for a week and a half to get the home cleaned.
Paul Frabizzio and his wife have lived in the home for 39 years. It is located alongside the Green Brook, which they say has grown considerably in size.
They say they have had to clean up from severe flooding eight times.
The forecast for more rain is not at all comforting.
“The way things have been going around here, it’s like the little rains kind of scare you now,” says Paul Frabrizzio. Now…depending on how fast we get it, kind of bothers me now.”
The Frabizzios are looking for a new home after accepting a Blue Acres buyout of the property. That means their home will be demolished and the land will be turned into green space.
