A 22-year-old college student in Hackettstown is getting quite the response on his new Mets tattoo.
Josh Davis got a tattoo of the team logo with the words "World Champs - 2015" surrounding it before the World Series even began. There's just one problem; the Kansas City Royals, and not the Mets, won the title.
The confident fan said he had been thinking of getting a team tattoo for a while. Davis says the Mets' National League championship victory and a challenge from a friend drove him to finally get inked.
"I tattooed them on my ribs to win the World Series before the World Series started," says Davis.
A lifelong Mets fan, Davis says that nothing could talk him out of getting the tattoo, not even tattoo artist Don Kincaid.
"It's a risk you run for sure," says Kincaid. "But the way he came in and how much it meant to him...it's all good. We had all sorts of plans to cover it up if he wanted to."
Davis says the tattoo, which cost $300, serves as a reminder of his dedication to his favorite team.
"It was a quick decision but after the fact I'm looking at all the positive aspects," he says. "I don't regret it at all. I think it's awesome."
Davis says there is always next year and that he can easily have 2015 changed to 2016.
