A jewelry store in Deal was burglarized early Thursday after thieves smashed through the front entrance and stole an entire display case of valuables, according to the store owner.
The burglary happened at about 2:56 a.m. at Diamonds by David Mugrabi on Norwood Avenue.
Surveillance video captured the break-in, showing the suspects using sledgehammers to break through the front door before heading directly to the display case closest to the windows. The suspects removed the cover, reached inside the case and grabbed jewelry before fleeing. The entire burglary lasted less than two minutes.
Store owner David Mugrabi said he has operated the business in Deal for a decade and has never experienced anything like it. He arrived shortly after police responded and found his store had been burglarized.
“I just didn’t believe it. It’s just something that doesn’t happen every day, and you never think it’s going to hit home when you are secure in the place. You feel so violated, of course,” Mugrabi said.
Deal police are asking anyone who recognizes the people seen in the surveillance video or their getaway vehicle to contact the department.
