The Somerset Patriots will temporarily rebrand as the Somerset Semiquincentennials this season to celebrate America's 250th anniversary.
The New York Yankees' Double-A affiliate will use the alternate identity during Independence Day weekend games on July 3-5 and again on Aug. 15 for the team's annual Revolutionary Revelry Night. The rebrand is presented by the Somerset County Commissioners and Tourism Office.
Players and coaches will wear commemorative uniforms featuring red and blue pinstripes, a Semiquincentennials wordmark and design elements honoring the Declaration of Independence and the nation's 250th anniversary.
The team said fans can expect Revolutionary War-themed activities throughout the ballpark, including interactive exhibits with the Heritage Trail Association, historical reenactors in period dress and opportunities to sign a replica of the Declaration of Independence with a custom wax seal.
Pregame ceremonies will include readings of the Declaration of Independence. On July 5, descendants of New Jersey's five Declaration signers — Abraham Clark, John Hart, Francis Hopkinson, Richard Stockton and John Witherspoon — are scheduled to participate in the reading.
The first 2,000 fans at each game will receive commemorative card strips highlighting New Jersey's Revolutionary War history.
The Aug. 15 Revolutionary Revelry Night will also feature historical displays, military encampments, appearances by period characters including George Washington, postgame fireworks and a ceremonial cannon firing.
The team's new logos feature patriotic colors and imagery, including a bald eagle wearing a top hat and a quill logo honoring New Jersey's five Declaration of Independence signers.
