Good Samaritan, Coast Guard rescue 6 near Sandy Hook
A good Samaritan helped a Coast Guard crew rescue six people after their boat capsized near Sandy Hook Monday afternoon.
A Coast Guard crew was out on the water training when they received a distress call from a boater who said that his boat was taking on water and capsizing, according to officials.
The Coast Guard says that the crew and the good Samaritan, who also heard the distress call, rushed to the scene to help.
The good Samaritan took three people aboard their boat and the Coast Guard crew took the other three people.
The six boaters were taken to Atlantic Highlands Marina. They were not injured, according to officials.
The 22-foot vessel has capsized in shallow water and is anchored and marked for navigational safety until the owner can arrange salvage operations for the boat, according to news release from the Coast Guard.
