Today marked the first weekday
commute with
cashless tolls in effect at the George
Washington Bridge.
Cashless tolls are being praised
to increase efficiency and reduce travel time -- that's what some drivers are
telling News 12.
"I imagine it's going to cause a lot of confusion a delay on when people need to pay and it's going to cost
issues overall but hopefully, we'll go through this transition as easy as we're
going through the bagless system in New Jersey,” says Sheldon, of Teaneck.
If you have E‑ZPass, you'll get through as usual. Those who don't have it will get
their plates photographed and will be billed by mail.
"Yeah, I mean that kind of
depends on the efficiency of the Postal Service, right -
so sometimes that's going to there's going to be some hiccups there,” says
Theodore Hahn, of Englewood Cliffs.
The lifting of the carpool
discount also went into effect Sunday, which a lot of people are not happy
about, including lawmakers hoping the Port Authority changes its mind.
The Lincoln Tunnel is slated to
implement the same thing by the end of the year, and it’s already been in
effect the past two years at the Holland Tunnel.
