GoFundMe has pulled the plug on a fundraiser set up for a man charged with reckless manslaughter in connection to the death of a 19-year-old girl found unresponsive in a car at a Hackensack parking garage.
The family of Michael Gaffney, of Maywood, had created the GoFundMe to raise money for his defense.
But the site shut down the page, citing a violation of its policy which bans raising money for legal defenses involving violent crimes.
Hackensack police received a 911 call Saturday shortly after 2 a.m. about an unresponsive female in a vehicle at 140 Prospect St.
They say the teen, identified as Francis Victoria Garcia, was pronounced dead at Hackensack University Medical Center.
According to authorities, an investigation revealed Garcia had been in the rear seat of her vehicle with Gaffney at the time of her death.
Authorities say an autopsy determined she died of compression injuries to her neck.
