She was 15 years old in 2014 when Bridgeport police say she was "gang raped" in the Greene Homes community.
Now, the victim of that crime has an extra reason to be grateful this Thanksgiving.
Youssef Mohammed, 27, who was already behind bars for an unrelated crime, has been charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault in connection with this case, police said Friday.
"Thanks to the diligence of the lead investigator, Detective Davon Polite, this cold case is now open again, and one step closer to being solved," said Bridgeport Police Sgt. Joaquim DeBarros.
The details of the investigation have not yet been released, but police say DNA evidence entered into the national law enforcement database CODIS "has now conclusively linked Mohammed to this gang rape."
"The victim was overjoyed, crying, when Detective Polite called to give her the good news," DeBarros said.
Mohammed's bond was set at $200,000.
