A timeline for the demolition of homes that were destroyed in a massive fire in Newark was still uncertain on Sunday evening.

A firefighter who was injured when the building on Seymour Avenue collapsed early Saturday morning was still in the hospital. He is a fire captain who suffered injuries to his face and back. He is in stable condition.

Three other firefighters were released from the hospital.

The Red Cross is assisting 34 people from seven families.

The fire began in the middle unit, which officials said was believed to be abandoned.

A cause of the fire was still unclear as of Sunday evening.

City officials said they hoped to learn more on Monday as far as when the site will be cleaned up.
