A New Jersey lawmaker and several 9/11 first responders are calling for an extension of the Zadroga Act.
The act provides medical monitoring and treatment for rescue workers who responded to the terror attack. It is set to expire later this year.
Rep. Bill Pascrell called on Congress Wednesday to extend the bill. The current legislation was enacted in 2010.
The Health and Compensation Reauthorization Act would indefinitely extend the current benefits.
The bill is named after James Zadroga, a North Arlington resident and New York City police officer, who died of a respiratory disease related to his heroism on 9/11.
