A fire ripped through a multiuse building before spreading to another in Garfield Sunday morning.
Multiple fire departments from across the region assisted the Garfield Fire Department in battling the blaze that began just before 9 a.m. According to fire officials, the fire ignited at 101 Jewell St. and quickly spread to 103 Jewell St.
One of the buildings houses a beauty salon on the first floor. The other building is home to a convenience store. Apartments are located above both businesses.
Officials say everyone evacuated the buildings safely, but six residents were treated for smoke inhalation and two firefighters reportedly suffered minor injuries.
A third building was also damaged, but residents will be able to move back into that building.
