Crews battled a warehouse fire that erupted Tuesday night in South River.

Officials say 90 firefighters from 17 different engines responded to the scene on Herman Street around 10:30 p.m.

Fire officials say the blaze involved several structures, impacting warehouses and nearby homes. All of the properties were abandoned.

The J.M. Ahle Company, which has been around for more than 25 years, was affected by the fire that broke out near its yard. The business provides steel reinforcing bars, steel mesh and a wide range of other construction materials to contractors and builders. The fire now leaves at least nine workers from that business out of a job.

No one was injured in the fire, according to officials.

It's unclear how the fire started but neighbors say the area has had a history of squatters.
