The Essex County Prosecutor's Office are investigating a shooting involving police in Elizabeth.
Officials say they responded to a domestic violence situation near Court and Third streets around 2 a.m. Sunday morning.
Officials say Michael Bates threatened and approached the officers during they incident. They say that is when officers fired at Bates.
Bates does not have any life threatening injuries. He is now faces charges.
It's unclear why Essex County prosecutors are handling the case, since the incident happened in Union County.
