Local children and teens rallied in the streets of Elizabeth Sunday for peace, two weeks after a 13-year-old boy was shot and killed on his bike.
Participants of the Peace in the Streets rally marched down the street where the boy, Elijah Henderson, was gunned down weeks ago. The rally, which drew a small crowd with a big goal, was organized by the United Youth Council. The kids want to end violence on their streets.
Concerned community members came out as well, to send a message to the city?s youth to put the guns down.
The crowd took time to recall other recent shootings as well.
Adults that attended say they were glad to see teens taking such an active role in changing their city.
The United Youth Council will hold a summit at their headquarters in Elizabeth Wednesday Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. to expand on their message.
