Flooding from high tides, rain and wind is affecting communities across New Jersey Friday, including in Edgewater.
Cars were spotted nearly completely underwater in some parking lots, while some drivers unwisely tried to navigate deep water on the roads.
At the Edgewater Tennis Club, water didn’t end up flooding inside, but it came all the way up to the door. Its owner said in 40 years, Superstorm Sandy was the only other time water affected them like this.
Floodwaters essentially put a Comfort Inn on an island Friday afternoon, and now there are additional concerns that the water will freeze over. Guests had to wait until the tide went out at 1 p.m. to finally leave the hotel.
The surge likely totaled a half dozen cars and trucks. Leyla Pagano couldn't find a spot by her nearby apartment, so she parked her car in the area overnight. She figures it's a total loss.
“I had to park it here overnight, and this is what we woke up to this morning,” she said.
