Tinton Falls resident Dave Goldman hit another roadblock Tuesday when a Brazilian supreme court justice suspended the order to reunite him with his son in Brazil.
Goldman was in Brazil for what he had hoped was the last leg of a long reunion journey with his 9-year-old son Sean. The Goldmans have been at the center of an international custody battle for nearly five years. A Brazilian court ruled Monday that Goldman should regain custody of the boy.
Sean was taken to Brazil by his mother when he was only four. Dave Goldman says the boy's mother then called him demanding a divorce and refusing to return. The boy's mother later remarried and died during childbirth. Sean's stepfather has been raising him in Brazil since.
Rep. Chris Smith is headed to Brazil to join Goldman.
"Hopefully he's going to be back and we're going to all celebrate," says Barry Goldman, Sean's grandfather.
