A Customs and Border Protection network outage caused a backlog of air passengers arriving to the U.S. from out of the country Friday evening.
The outage lasted a few hours, but officials say the system is now back up and running.
Customs and Border Protection officials said that customs agents were still processing international travelers during the outage by using “alternative procedures.”
But these alternative practices caused some delays in getting through customs.
Officials at Newark Liberty International Airport said that things were “slowly returning to normal,” now that the outage was revolved.
Customs officials say that there is “no indication the disruption was malicious in nature.”
