Cranford fireworks go on as scheduled despite petition
The Cranford Fourth of July fireworks went on as scheduled Tuesday evening, despite a petition signed by hundreds of residents to hold it on July 4.
The town moved the fireworks display to Tuesday for police staffing and safety reasons. But some residents were upset that it would not be on the actual Fourth of July holiday.
About 400 residents signed the online petition.
But other town residents said they would attend the festivities no matter when they are held.
“I think people will come out if they are interested…I just think people will just truly enjoy the fireworks,” said one resident.
The celebration took place at Nomahegan Park. The town will also host canoe races and the annual Firecracker Fun Run on July 4.
