The New Jersey Turnpike command center will see a flurry of activity this holiday weekend as an expected 300 million drivers hit the road.
The traffic started early Friday with travelers looking to beat the crowded roadways and head to the beaches. Those at the command center will be monitoring all the roads at various points searching for delays and congestion. According to New Jersey Turnpike Authority Spokesman Joe Orlando, there are 75 cameras that pan up and down the roads.
Orlando says when there are delays and traffic, the command center tries to get the information out to motorists as soon as possible. Orlando expects the roads to be busier this year than last because of the warm weather.
According to Orlando, if motorists see an incident, they should alert the command center by dialing #95 for the Turnpike or #GSP for the Garden State Parkway.
