The New Jersey State Fair draws thousands of visitors from near and far to Sussex County, but this year there is a controversy surrounding one of its star performers.
Protesters are concerned that Nosey the elephant is being mistreated.
The animal has been under the care of Hugo Liebel for 32 years. Liebel and his family have been charged with animal welfare violations in the past.
State officers from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals are keeping a watchful eye over Nosey to make sure the animal is treated well.
Officials say if any violations are found, Liebel could be given a summons or even arrested.
