Authorities have evacuated three homes in South Amboy after partial road collapse along a dead-end street.
South Amboy police say they were called at around 6:30 a.m. on a report of a collapse on the 300-block of Gordon Street.
"I heard all the creaking...and my son's car went down the hill," says homeowner Ray Miller. "I called 911."
When officers arrived, they noticed that a small SUV had fallen down into a ravine at the end of the street. Police say they believe the collapse was caused by a water main break.
Neighbors say it could have been much worse if this incident happened a few days ago. That portion of the street was used as a staging area for the town's St. Patrick's Day parade.
The residents who were evacuated will have to find another place to stay tonight. No one was injured from the collapse.
