A large water main break continues to flood part of a roadway in Bridgewater after water began rushing out overnight.
Police first sent out an alert around 12:30 a.m., but residents say water has been flowing since at least midnight — and possibly earlier.
The break is located on North Bridge Street between Prince Rodgers Avenue and Seventh Street.
Crews from New Jersey American Water are on scene, working to locate the exact source of the break and begin repairs. Workers have already started digging into the roadway as they try to isolate the problem.
Water is still actively flowing on both sides of the street, with crews pumping it out as flooding continues. The water has spread across nearby areas, including in front of a post office, raising concerns about possible impacts to the building and operations.
Nearby creeks are also filling up as runoff drains away, with water moving quickly through tighter channels.
Residents in the area say the break has already affected daily life. One person told News 12 they have been without water since around 11 p.m.
Bridgewater police have blocked off the roadway, and drivers are being detoured through surrounding streets, including Prince Rodgers Avenue near the Bridgewater Commons.
"There's a lot of water here… I'm just trying to get to work," said one nearby worker dealing with the disruption.
Officials say repairs will take time, as crews must fully isolate the break, fix the pipe and then repair the road.
There is no estimated timeline yet for when the work will be completed.
