A homeowner caught sight of a rare bobcat curiously peeking into his Stillwater backyard last week.

Video shows the bobcat sitting in the bushes at the edge of the yard.

The homeowner said the animal appeared to be watching birds at his feeder before scurrying away.

According to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, bobcats are listed as endangered in the state. While their population appears to be rebounding, sightings of the elusive cats remain relatively uncommon in the wild.

Residents can report bobcat sightings through the New Jersey Wildlife Tracker application, which helps researchers better understand the state's bobcat population.
