Many residents are still cleaning up after the Fourth of July weekend storms.

A town in Essex County is allowing gas-powered leaf blowers to be used for storm cleanup. The Township of Millburn made the announcement because of the significant amount of debris left by the storms.

The temporary suspension of the seasonal restriction on gas-powered leaf blowers is intended to assist residents, landscapers and contractors with storm cleanup only.

They will have until the end of the day Friday to use them.

Seasonal restrictions will then resume, and the use of gas-powered leaf blowers will not be allowed again until after Labor Day.

As of 6 a.m., JCP&L is reporting that about 60 customers are without power, with an estimated restoration time for some as late as 11 p.m. tomorrow.

For NJ Transit riders, the Morris & Essex lines, which saw the worst damage, will return to regular weekday service today.

NJ Transit said more than 50 trees came down along those lines, causing extensive damage to tracks and wires.
