The Orthodox Jewish community on the Jersey Shore is mourning the death of a 9-year-old tragically killed in a freak baseball accident.
Eliyahu Dabbah went into cardiac arrest after being struck in the neck by a baseball hit by his older brother. The two were playing in their backyard in Long Branch at the time of the accident.
Family and friends remember Eliyahu as a sweet and bright boy. On the day of his death, he was chosen as student of the month at his school.
The two were playing ball with an aluminum bat. Three years ago, New Jersey lawmakers considered a ban on metal bats after a 12-year-old hit by a line drive off an aluminum bat suffered brain swelling. The measure never passed.
