Bed bugs seriously complicated five county sheriff officers responding to a domestic violence call in Jersey City Tuesday.
Hudson County Sheriff Juan Perez says five officers were raiding a home on Wilkinson Avenue looking for a weapon connected to a domestic violence case. The officers found drug paraphernalia and cocaine.
As they were making two arrests, the officers say they felt an itchy sensation.
"We're talking hundreds and hundreds of bed bugs," says Armando Roman, Jersey City's fire director. "I can't quite frankly put a number on it, but the whole place was infested."
Fifteen people, including the officers and 10 people living at the home, had to be decontaminated after the infestation was found.
Four officers and the two arrested men were taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
