However, the company assures that this is a temporary issue, typical for this time of year, and poses no health concern.

The affected areas include parts of the Jersey Shore, Monmouth, and Ocean Counties.

According to New Jersey American Water, the issue is due to seasonal algal activity, and they are working to minimize its impact on customers. The company estimates that the issue will be resolved by Jan. 6.

This development comes after a similar issue was addressed in North and Central Jersey, where a leak was discovered at a repackaging facility in Branchburg.

The spill involved Alpha-pinene, a chemical commonly used in fragrance and food. New Jersey American Water and the NJDEP have confirmed that the water is safe to drink, and remediation efforts are underway.
