The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office is asking for the public’s help to identify the remains of a woman found nearly 40 years ago.
The remains were discovered in Mullica Township in July 1988. The remains are believed to be of a Black woman who was estimated to have been born between 1953 and 1963. She was estimated to be 5 feet, 2 inches in height and had given birth at least once in her lifetime.
Officials say that they have determined that the woman is the biological daughter of James “Crab Daddy” Whiting, Jr. – an Atlantic County man who died in 2011 at 95 years old.
Authorities are hoping to speak with any of Whiting’s friends or relatives who would be able to provide information about any child he may have had in the 1950s.
Anyone who might have information is urged to contact the county prosecutor at 609-909-7666.
