Toms River police are searching for a thief they say has not only been robbing people, but zipping around town in a stolen car at the same time.
Authorities believe the suspect?s crime spree started with the theft of a gray, four-door Chevy Impala from a Route 9 parking lot on Dec. 16. The vehicle was parked at a Wachovia bank and belonged to a customer.
The car was used by the suspect six days later when he got gas at a Route 70 Wawa, then took off without paying. After another six days, the man drove the Impala into a Food Town parking lot and snatched a woman?s purse from her cart out of the passenger side.
One of the woman?s credit cards was used 20 minutes after the theft at a Brick Township Wawa to purchase $100 worth of cigarettes.
According to the Food Town victim, a baby was strapped into a car seat in the back of the car. Police believe the child likely belongs to the suspect since they have not received any kidnapping or missing children reports.
Anyone with information on any of the incidents is urged to contact the Toms River Police Department.
