Parents disciplining their children should avoid spanking, according to a new policy statement from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Spanking, slapping, insulting and shaming are among the methods not advised.
The group instead advises mothers and fathers to use what it calls "healthy forms of discipline."
This includes giving positive reinforcement, setting expectations and limits.
