The overnight snow, rain and slush will likely make Thursday morning’s commute very messy and dangerous.
AAA wants New Jersey drivers to be safe and prepared to deal with the conditions.
The organization offers the following tips:
  • Only go out if absolutely necessary
  • Drive slowly
  • Adjust speeds to account for lower traction
  • Be familiar with the vehicle’s brakes
AAA says that if drivers have antilock brakes or not, they should keep their heels on the floor and only use the ball of their foot to apply firm and steady pressure on the brake pedal.
Driving in the snow is not only challenging but can also take a toll on the vehicle itself.
AAA tells News 12 that winter weather, as well as the salt and ice-melting chemicals used to clear the roads, can cause both rust and corrosion to vehicles – and cost drivers a lot of money.
AAA says that washing one’s vehicle during the colder months can help protect it from the elements.
"The undercarriage is something you don't see very often and the salt really does affect it and eats away at the metal. Our chemicals that we use here wash all the salt off and then protect it to keep it lasting longer and staying as new as possible,” an Edison car wash attendant told News 12.
