Three people were shot in White Plains following a basketball tournament game near Gardella Park.
White Plains Public Safety Commissioner David Chong said the gunfire broke out after one of the semifinal games of the annual tournament around 10 p.m. Thursday.
"There were a lot of shots fired out here, we recovered over 40 shells," says Chong.
A large crowd was on hand when two groups got into a dispute as people were heading to their cars on Church Street. One group confronted the other, and multiple shots were fired.
"We heard what I thought was rapid fireworks but clearly that wasn't the case," says Henry Dosch, who lives nearby.
A 24-year-old woman was struck in the shoulder, and two men—ages 22 and 18—were hit in the hands. All three were taken to Westchester Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Sources tell News 12 all three victims are from The Bronx.
Police are still searching for the shooters but say there is no threat to the general public.
Anyone who witnessed the scene or has video is asked to call 914-432-6210.
"As minimal as you may think it could be, it could be important to our investigation," Chong explains.
The championship game of the tournament scheduled for Sunday at the County Center has been canceled.
