A three-alarm fire ripped through a home in Roselle Park on Friday afternoon, displacing a family.
The fire was inside the Calle family home on Walnut Street. The family has lived there for almost 20 years. All the windows were blown out and one side of the home was charred.
The family says they were inside the home around 1 p.m. watching TV when their 5-year-old son first noticed black smoke coming out of a vent. Mrs. Calle then called out for her older son.
"There's smoke coming out and he's like, ‘Call 911.’ I got scared, I go into shock,” Calle says.
“I tried to go to the basement to see if I could put it out, but I opened the door and I couldn't see nothing, so I knew that was time we had to run out," Calle's stepson says.
The heat and flames from that fire proved to be intense. The siding on the house next door melted. There were three people and a dog at home at the time. Everyone got out safely, but unfortunately, this family will not be able to return home for now.
