A 22-year-old man was stabbed multiple times at Seth Low Playground on Thursday afternoon, just weeks after parents and local officials had raised alarms about safety issues in the busy Bensonhurst park.
The attack happened while the playground was crowded with children celebrating the end of the school year.
The victim was stabbed in the chest, stomach, arm and wrist, according to the NYPD.
Council Member Susan Zhuang said parents had contacted her in the past to report people with knives in the park.
“I immediately called our local precinct,” Zhuang told News 12. “But if we had more patrolling here, what happened yesterday might not have happened.”
Earlier this month, parents also warned about groups of young men riding mopeds through the park and feared someone could get hurt. One of those mopeds even caught fire.
The Parks Department declined to comment and referred questions to the NYPD.
According to the union representing park enforcement officers, staffing levels have dropped significantly due to hiring freezes, leaving only four officers for the entire borough.
