There are pleas for relief from a lack of available parking spots in Clifton. The complaints come from the most densely populated neighborhood known as Botany Village.
The neighborhood is filled with tightly packed houses which, over the years, have been transformed into multi-family units. Often those families have more than one car.
The City of Clifton enacted Residential Permit Parking, designed to reserve spots for those who live on select streets in Botany Village. Still, neighbors often get frustrated at driving laps while looking for a spot.
Elia Calixto lives along Lincoln Place, the heart of the Botany Village section of Clifton. She often finds herself driving laps among streets like Harrison Place and Arthur Street in search of a parking spot.
She says she doesn't yet have a parking permit but takes her chances some days and parks close to home. However, she often finds tickets that cost between $30 and $50 on her windshield.
“I have like six tickets. My daughter has like a couple of tickets," said Calixto.
She also complained of too many unused handicapped parking spots.
"Mostly all of these are handicapped. I know all of these people are not handicapped," said Calixto.
The city of Clifton is regularly ticketing those who don’t have permits to park.
