Changes are coming for commuters traveling from Monmouth County to New York City, but the transition under new management hasn't been entirely smooth sailing.
Riders and local officials are expressing frustration with New York Waterway following a wave of operational adjustments implemented since the company took over the route in recent weeks.
As part of the updated operations, New York Waterway is introducing two new trips:
An early morning run departing at 5:15 a.m.
A late evening run at 6:15 p.m. leaving Pier 79
However, the adjustments also impact existing timetables. Most notably, the heavily relied-upon 6:30 a.m. morning ferry is now leaving 10 minutes earlier, catching some early risers off guard as they scramble to adjust their daily routines.
Despite pushback from local leaders over the sudden shifts, reactions on the ground are more nuanced. News 12 spoke to commuters at the terminal this morning; some riders welcomed the flexibility, noting that the new early and late departures are a welcome addition for shifting work schedules.
As transit authorities field complaints and review feedback from local officials, commuters are advised to double-check the updated departure timetables before heading to the dock.
