A 58-year-old Williamstown man was killed Thursday morning after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a local highway in Hamilton Township.

The crash occurred at approximately 6:43 a.m. at the intersection of Harding Highway and Cantillon Boulevard. According to police, Hamilton Township officers were called to the area for reports of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle.

Based on a preliminary investigation, detectives determined that Khadijah Pierce, 33, of Millville, was driving a 2009 Toyota Camry westbound on Harding Highway when the collision occurred. Police said Karl Hansen, 58, of Williamstown, was crossing the westbound lanes of traffic against the traffic signal when he was struck by the vehicle.

Hansen suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash led to the closure of Harding Highway between River Drive and Thirty Second Street for about three hours as investigators processed the scene and worked to clear the roadway.

The investigation remains ongoing and is being conducted by the Hamilton Township Police Department Traffic Unit.
