An e-bike propped against the outside wall of a McDonald’s went up in flames early Tuesday morning.

The bike was next to the building’s gas utility, according to Neptune Township police. When first responders arrived, they immediately extinguished the fire and moved the bike away from the utilities, police said.

“NTOEM (Neptune Township OEM) HazMat technicians worked to remove and safely package the damaged battery cells for proper disposal,” police said in a statement.

McDonald’s remained closed as crews worked to extinguish the fire and clear the charred e-bike and battery cells from the area.

Police and the Neptune Township Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating. No injuries were reported.
