Vineland man sentenced to 7 years in prison for Atlantic City shooting, police pursuit
Under the sentence, Becerra must serve three and a half years before becoming eligible for parole.

A Vineland man has been sentenced to seven years in state prison after pleading guilty to charges stemming from a 2025 shooting in Atlantic City and a police pursuit in Hammonton.
Daniel Becerra, 34, was sentenced Tuesday. Under the sentence, Becerra must serve 3½ years before becoming eligible for parole.
Becerra previously pleaded guilty to second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and second-degree eluding in a motor vehicle.
The weapons charge stems from a Sept. 14, 2025, incident in which Atlantic City police responded to a ShotSpotter alert near 2406 Island Ave. at about 4:06 a.m. Responding officers recovered seven spent 9mm shell casings, a live round and blood at the scene.
Surveillance footage and the investigation revealed that, after an associate was involved in a physical fight outside El Charro Restaurant, Becerra retrieved a firearm and walked toward the group involved. Surveillance footage captured Becerra raising his arm and firing two shots into the air as victims and bystanders ducked for cover, followed by five additional shots as people scattered.
The eluding charge stems from an earlier incident on Feb. 23, 2025, when Hammonton police attempted to pull over a Toyota Highlander driven by Becerra. Police said Becerra refused to stop despite demands from his female passenger, telling her he had outstanding warrants.
Becerra forced the woman out of the vehicle, instructed her to lie to police and ran a red light at U.S. Route 30 and Seagrove Avenue, prompting police to terminate the pursuit. The vehicle was found crashed in a residential backyard an hour later, though Becerra had fled the area.
