A 20-year-old New York City woman was killed Friday afternoon after being ejected from a vehicle during a multi-car collision on the Garden State Parkway in Ocean County.
The crash occurred around 2:57 p.m. on Aug. 7 along the northbound lanes at milepost 75.8 in Lacey Township.
Preliminary investigation reveals that a Toyota sedan, driven by 26-year-old Johan Mendez of New York, N.Y., was traveling northbound carrying four passengers when it veered off the road and struck a guiderail. The Toyota then re-entered the travel lanes and collided with a northbound Hyundai sedan.
The impact caused two rear-seat passengers in the Toyota, 20-year-old Iisiz Lopez of New York, N.Y., and an infant, to be ejected from the vehicle. State Police confirmed Lopez sustained fatal injuries.
Mendez, the infant, and the remaining passengers in the Toyota suffered minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the Hyundai also sustained minor injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and state police have not released further details at this time.
