A 20-year-old Manorville man has been arrested by Suffolk police in connection to the violent death of a man in Medford.

Timothy Stark was allegedly stabbed in the back by Joseph Norton during an altercation on Express Drive South and Route 112 on Monday.

They say Norton then drove away from the scene while 32-year-old Stark was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A short time after Stark's death, police say patrol officers found and arrested Norton at the intersection of Yaphank Avenue and Horseblock Road in Yaphank.

Norton is charged with murder.

People who knew Stark said he was a staple of the community.

"He was somebody, and I want the world to know that," said Tanika Quashie, after placing candles and a poster at a growing memorial for Stark.

Quashie, who works at the nearby DMV, said that she and her colleagues have taken care of Stark for "a long time."

She said they gave him food and clothing.

"I’m just at a loss for words that somebody so kind, didn’t bother anybody, somebody so innocent, and you do that to him? It’s just unforgivable," Quashie said.

Norton's attorney, Peter H. Mayer IV, entered a denial to the murder charge. He said that his client is presumed innocent and stressed that "these charges are not convictions."
