A 26-year-old New Jersey woman has been charged following a multi-state investigation into an alleged identity theft and fraudulent banking scheme targeting TD Bank branches across New England, Connecticut police said.
Shelton police said detectives identified the suspect as Tierra Smikle, 26, of New Jersey, after investigating fraudulent transactions conducted at TD Bank branches in Shelton and Westport, Connecticut.
According to police, the investigation, conducted with law enforcement agencies in Connecticut and Massachusetts, determined that Smikle allegedly used another person’s identity to carry out the fraudulent transactions.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant, and Smikle was charged with forgery, larceny, identity theft and criminal impersonation.
Police said Smikle was released after posting a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court.
