Municipal crews are clearing storm drains in Sayville ahead of Tuesday night’s expected storm, working to remove debris and improve drainage as Long Island prepares for heavy rain, strong winds and possible flooding.

In Lindenhurst, residents are keeping a close eye on weather forecasts after flooding impacted portions of the community during Saturday’s storms.
“This area tends to flood a lot because we’re very close to the water,” resident Kevin Fleischman said.
Shore Road was among the areas affected during the weekend storm system, with standing water creating concerns for residents.
“This parking lot fills up because everyone moves their cars to the high ground,” Fleischman said.
In the Town of Islip, Supervisor Angie Carpenter warned residents to prepare for the possibility of downed tree limbs and power lines as strong winds move through the region.
“Expecting high winds is what has been predicted, so the possibility of a downed wire certainly is very real,” Carpenter said.
Town officials are reminding residents that any downed power line should be treated as energized and avoided until utility crews can respond.
Along with damaging winds, flooding remains a major concern as forecasters monitor the approaching storm system.
For now, many Long Islanders are making final preparations and waiting for the weather to move through.
“I mowed the lawn here in Lindy and the dog's going for a second walk. I know the weather's coming, so prepare,” said Kevin Conway, of Oak Beach.
