Animal rescuers teamed up with nearly a dozen police officers to save an osprey in Nassau County.
The bird was found stuck in a tree, 15 feet in the air, on Woodmere Boulevard in Woodmere on Sunday afternoon.
Local rescuer John DeBacker says the animal was hanging from a fishing hook.
Officers from Nassau Police ESU used a piece of wood to lower the branch as DeBacker waited below to grab the osprey and bring him to safety.
He was then examined by Sweetbriar Nature Center to remove the hook and cleared to be released back into the wild.
