Chilly, wet weather could force some people heading to the Jersey Shore for Memorial Day weekend to make alternate plans.
In Belmar, lifeguards at 18th Avenue Beach used rescue boats to seek shelter from the wind and chill blowing off the surf. Rain is expected Saturday in Belmar, with high temperatures only in the 50s.
Some visitors said they were already thinking about indoor options if beach plans do not work out.
“We were thinking of golfing tomorrow, if not maybe bowling, maybe a movie. Just get inside and enjoy the fresh air on another date,” said Christine Gillie, of Tinton Falls.
Danielle Clark, of Brick, said she and her husband often drive around Manasquan and other shore towns during bad weather.
“My husband and I go around Manasquan and the shore towns and see the people who have come down and have the garbage bags on and waiting in line to get in different bars,” Clark said.
The ocean water temperature is around 50 degrees.
