As summer approaches, the City of Wildwood has announced plans to close its boardwalk to the public overnight.

From 1 to 5 a.m., the city says no one will be permitted on the boardwalk. The new hours are part of Wildwood's commitment to public safety and quality of life. The new hours were established as part of an ordinance that the city plans to adopt on April 22 following a public hearing during the Board of Commissioners meeting. The new rules will take effect at some point after the ordinance is adopted.

“These hours are designed to limit late-night crowds and support a welcoming, friendly atmosphere for everyone to enjoy the best of our boardwalk,” said Steve Mikulski, deputy mayor and commissioner of public safety. “We fully support our boardwalk businesses. This is not about limiting business activity; it’s about preventing loitering, large gatherings, and the types of behavior that tend to occur after hours.”

The new rules will not apply to emergency personnel responding to calls, authorized city employees, vendors, or contractors performing approved work on the boardwalk.

The city will install signs along the boardwalk with the new hours. The rules will be enforced by Wildwood police.
