A commercial delivery driver had a miraculous escape early Monday morning after a massive, uprooted tree collapsed onto his truck, trapping him inside the wreckage.
According to the Newark Public Safety Director, fire crews responded to the scene at Maple Avenue near Keer Avenue at approximately 4:16 a.m. Upon arrival, first responders found an uprooted tree, measuring roughly three feet in diameter, resting on top of an America’s Bakery delivery truck.
The impact of the heavy tree left the male driver entrapped inside the commercial vehicle. Firefighters quickly went to work and successfully rescued the driver from the crushed vehicle. Amazingly, the driver reported no injuries, and public safety officials confirmed that no other injuries were reported at the scene.
Before the truck was struck, the falling tree also brought down nearby utility wires and damaged two unoccupied parked vehicles across the street.
America's Bakery, based in neighboring Irvington, is a well-known neighborhood staple that handles early-morning deliveries throughout the area.
PSE&G crews were called to the scene to address the downed utility lines and restore safety to the block.
