Family members of the Gilgo Beach murder victims appeared during a press conference Wednesday reflecting on Rex Heuermann’s guilty pleas.
Megan Waterman’s daughter, Liliana, thanked authorities for the outcome.
“On behalf of her, and my aunt, and all of our family back home - we do accept and we are very thankful for everything they’ve done for us,” she said.
Jessica Taylor’s mother acknowledged the plea and expressed gratitude for the case coming to an end.
“I accept the plea wholeheartedly,” she said. “I am glad that this is over.”
The son and daughter of Maureen Brainard-Barnes also appeared briefly and accepted the plea.
Melissa Kahn, Brainard-Barnes’s sister, stood alongside family members at the podium.
“I want to begin by thanking the district attorney, his office, the detectives, the FBI, the New York State Police and the entire task force,” she said. “For years, they never stopped; they carried this case with determination and heart. Our family will forever be grateful.”
“We are forever thankful for the work that led us here. Finally, a sense of relief. The guilty plea brings solace and I'd like to thank everyone who had a part in that fight for justice,” she said.
“I would also like to thank the media for continuing to keep this case in the public eye,” Kahn said.
“Today is not about the person responsible. Today is about the women’s lives who were stolen,” she said.
