A Gloucester Township man was charged in the fatal stabbing of his spouse during an incident that also involved a house fire, authorities said.
Jerome Morris, 50, is charged with murder in the death of 51-year-old Monica Morris, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.
Police responded at about 2:25 a.m. Tuesday to a home on the 100 block of Freedom Way for a report of a stabbing. Officers entered the home and found Jerome Morris holding a knife and covered in blood, authorities said. He was taken into custody.
Officers later found Monica Morris in a third-floor bedroom with heavy fire and smoke conditions. Firefighters removed her from the home and extinguished the fire. She was pronounced dead at the scene at about 2:50 a.m.
Two other adults escaped the fire without injury. Three Gloucester Township police officers suffered minor injuries inside the home. Two were treated at the scene, and one was taken to a hospital, where he was treated and released.
Jerome Morris was taken to a hospital and will be held at the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing, authorities said.
